Activism: Currently my activism efforts include: Christian ministry, Black and African American preservation, Community Organization, Women’s Issue and Domestic Violence, and Mental Health, especially providing effective stigma reduction, better described as discrimination reduction.
Peer Support: I use my art to highlight issues and alternative view points that are possibly not a part of the larger conversation. Art heals communities. As an artist and healer it is my job to make people think, it is the job of the audience to understand. It is their choice to agree. Whether they agree or disagree, now the conversation has begun, now we can seek solutions, now we can see each other in our full humanity through the chaos.
Gigs: I would like to be booked for speaking engagements that include Public/Motivational Speaking, Spoken Word Features, and Event Hosting/Facilitation. I am a radio personality as well, so I am available to be interviewed as well as to interview others.
I CAN DO
I WILL NOT ALL
I WILL NOT BE EVERYTHING!
There are limits
And I AM enough
Facing Page: Effective Stigma Reduction:
What I would like to the the Recovery Movement: I believe that the recovery movement needs to focus more on the peer support business models. There is more out there than drop in centers. We are humans, there wouldn’t be so many of us if we didn’t need each other. We also need to create more safe spaces for people to heal and to provide effective stigma reduction, better described as discrimination reduction. However, if the workers are helping to get people mentally fit and ending up financially unfit (unable to support their families) that is a problem. Along with the creation all of these safe spaces and peer supports, there needs to be financial undergirding. We need to find more ways, creative ways to sustainably propel the movement.
Health Insurance Success Story: I have a hip problem and have been lucky my husband has a corporate employer. In America, we’d be a lot better off if everyone could get health care. I’ve been a big advocate for alternative and complementary medicine, and my hip would be a lot worse if I didn’t fight to get the right kind of treatment for what it needs. It’s been educational to see the difference in how my physical health and mental health stuff is treated, so effective stigma reduction or discrimination reduction is essential in the medical industry.
